Our first position over at R1 sees the late price on #9 Exploration take a complete nose dive as punters follow our value as the thin exchange books do little to help stem the flow down to $26.00 at the Corporates to settle at a BSP of $21.06.

As we hit $5.30 in play we prove the overlay existed – it’s just a shame to see the final few minutes once again resulting in the Corporates making some frantic moves to have the numbers line up for their own accounting purposes.

At a BSP of just $5.86 and an SP of $5.50, #4 Take Tea was the most disappointing run of the day as we almost instantly went out to $1000.00 in-play and an official margin of “106.4L” as what looks like an awkward jump and an equipment failure sees Glen retire the filly out completely as the saddle shifted back and sideways without recovery early in the race.

In this case there’s really nothing that we can do about it as it’s just sheer bad luck to see this happen, but in the interest of both jockey and horse welfare it was clearly the correct decision to ease her out.

With the map severely affected by one of the top prospects now out of the race completely, the expected upset came with the $17.90 #3 Raging Pole happily taking down the photo against #7 Say Haya whilst backers of #1 Czarson will be severely disappointed in the $4.00 shot coming in 4th at a margin of 2.60L.

#11 Rothenburg made a strong recovery from an incredibly dubious early position to come in 5th at a margin of 2.80L and a shortish price of just $6.00 correctly pegged for an $8.00+ shot in our preview.

Although we’ve been hammered hard across the rest of our bets, an amazing finish saves the day as we correctly pick #11 Ice Frost at a whopping SP of $9.00and BSP of $10.34 to take down the super shortie #7 Epic Girl with a massive pay-off that helps us make back the stake loss at the other tracks whilst padding our bank with a healthy number of units on top.

Of course it was a practice in patience to watch the price drop down past $2.00 and then hover at $1.30 for what felt like a century as #7 Epic Girl popped in and out of the $2.00 mark before we finally hit that $1.02.

Our preview put #7 Epic Girl at being a huge lay at the $1.65 and with the late price of $1.70/$1.75 we had gone past the “point of no return” with yet another “sure thing” being taken down a peg.

This time the double digit price we’ve been flirting with over our past few weeks went our way as we get the head out by 0.20L to lock in the well deserved 9+ unit profit.

The absolutely tiny stake on #5 Cavellton resulted in no effort at all with a shocking run failing to find even a pittance of opportunity.

We’re over the moon to have finally nabbed the close shortie/roughie finish as we’ve been flirting with it consistently over the last few weeks including $10.05 #5 Morvada (0.20L), $8.00/$9.06 #7 Bigboyroy (0.10L) and $8.50/$8.31 #6 Magic Over The Bay (0.50L) all game-changing close misses that have shown their head.

Whilst the collect here saves us from what looks to be a disaster day for punters across all meetings, at the same time we’re keeping to the objective truth that we needed the majority of the field to perform better with another collect or two well and truly an expectation for us to be happy with the runs given.

Of course, we need to celebrate the victories as well – especially when we still come out ahead despite general performances – and hopefully we’ll see some more of those rough numbers come in for us more often as we look to lock in the value presented to us through our more selective strategy.
