Meeting Results Summary

Platinum Profit:

Betfair SP: +$720.00

Basic Premium Profit:

Corp SP: +$275.00 Betfair SP: +$360.00

Doomben leads the way for us today with some very lopsided results locking in our profit despite going all-in-or-nothing with the places.

Platinum members once again get the greatest benefit as they pull in 160% POT against some very average SP numbers that managed just 122.22% return.

Either way, the profit helps to mop up some of the close finishes at Caulfield, and takes us into another little bit of profit which is well needed at this time of the month.

We started off very strong in R2 with #6 La Pulga at $5.00/$6.26 the first big margin in the favour of Platinum members as we pump late to go from 6th to 1st as #1 Sir Barnabus follows our lead and nips at the tail at just 0.30L the difference.

Unsurprisingly we failed to see #8 Star of Michelin put in much of a run, sitting squarely in the middle at a very average attempt to finish at the front of the back half of the group with an official margin of 4.00L.

Interestingly, the run from $10.00 #7 Aqua Vite was strong, maintaining a decent 2nd through most of the race to finish reasonably well in 3rd at a margin of 1.60L.

Of course, the hole in the group was fully exploited by #6 La Pulga and #1 Sir Barnabus. Although we’re obviously happy with the early win, it wouldn’t have taken much to see that go the way of #1 Sir Barnabus so this one is a little too close for comfort.

We took a big break through the next races to jump in R6 with #9 Usmanov coming in at $7.50/$6.92 being the 2nd time today that BSP backers were punished,

It was an incredibly close win to #3 Scallopini, and our preview correctly identified #15 Boomtown Lass as a danger with the $15.00 mare just the nose off leaving a bit of egg on the face of the favourite.

Our final margin was 1.60L at the official result, with our pace being let down by the mid-race as we pulled back too far from the early 3rd position which cost us distance that we weren’t able to make back.

Whilst not a terrible run, we gave away far too much to the rest of the field, and so we’d like to see some better jockeying going through to the next start.

R7, on the other hand, was an incredibly dull effort with #8 Magnufighter popping at $10.00/$12.00 but being let down by sticking to a wall of horses and getting blocked out from any chance at a decent finish.

The final field sat very obviously skewed between two groups of runners, with #13 Le Juge well and truly ahead as the two following packs tie themselves up to allow a 1.30L margin as there was just 1.50L between 5th and 11th.

With traffic being such a huge variable, any runner that’s able to take advantage of gaps in the field would have dominated and so it’s another tough one to pick apart as given a few more runs we’d likely see the results shoot all over the place.

With that being said, it was nowhere near the result we saw in R2 or R6 so we’d probably be leaning towards putting this one into the “dud” pile for today.

R8 was our penultimate with #1 The Odyssey jumping at $10.00/$12.00 mirroring the market we saw in R7 whilst at the same time also failing to get close with an official margin of 4.30L leaving plenty to be desired.

This is a particularly frustrating one as we managed to maintain a strong 2nd all the way through to the final stretch with more clumping from #9 Scathing, #4 Stampe and #7 Garibaldi making for a tough challenge to overcome.

As has largely been the trend today, it’s the middle and back half of the field who have been able to capitalise on this consistent traffic with #12 Exhilirates the perfect example with a close 2nd coming off the back of a whopping 12th during the meaty part of the race.

We would like to see some more strategic approaches from the jockeys when we see these kinds of trends – particularly in unforgiving tracks like Doomben which give very little distance to make up for critical mistakes.

Fortunately, Doomben finishes for us like a tasty sandwich as we get some yummy rye and smashed avo in the end with #16 Shalwa coming true at a slightly less palatable $5.00/$5.44 looking a bit short against the $6.50 we saw earlier.
It was another incredibly close one, mirroring the results from several other races, as we lock in the win by just 0.30L with $26.00 #8 Krone looking to cause some real trouble.

Much like the other results, we were able to take advantage of late pack traffic to shoot out from the mid-field to lock in our win, as places 3rd to 6th provide a wall of horses with just a half a length between them as 7th to 12th and 13th to 15th make for the other two packs.

As expected, #6 Paint The Town Two was a shadow of her regular runs, with two very average finishes now making us wonder if she’s either been placed in some shit conditions or it might be time for her to take another rest after a dominating Summer/Autumn go at it.

Although not an ideal set of results across the middle of the staking plan, we’re happy that Doomben was able to lead the results for us today and get us ahead despite some close misses and late dumps.
